Seedr has a built-in viewer for the files you already keep in your cloud. Click a file in your library and it opens in the browser. Video plays. PDF renders. HEIC photos show as normal images. No local copy, no VLC, no Acrobat, no "open with" prompts.

This guide covers what the viewer handles, what it does not, and how to get the best playback out of it.

What this gets you

  • One-click playback for video, audio, images, PDF and text files, straight from the file list.
  • Zero install: works on any modern browser. No extensions required.
  • No local copy: the file stays in Seedr. Your device storage is untouched.
  • Subtitles and multi-track audio in the video viewer (see limits below).
  • HEIC/HEIF previews — iPhone photos render as regular images thanks to server-side conversion.
  • PDF viewer with annotations: text, highlight, draw, signature, form-fill. Save pushes the edited PDF back to your cloud.

Good for quick previews, movie nights without setup, reading docs on a borrowed laptop, and flipping through iPhone photo dumps.

What you need

  • A Seedr account. The free plan works for the viewer. Storage and bandwidth are the gating factor, not the viewer itself.
  • A modern browser: current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Mobile browsers work too.
  • Files already in your Seedr library. If you have not added anything yet, paste a link or drag a file into the upload area first.
  • For 1080p and 4K playback you need a Premium plan. Free and Basic cap at lower resolutions.

Setup, step by step

There is no "install" for the viewer. It ships with every Seedr account. The workflow below is the one you will use daily.

  1. Sign in at your Seedr dashboard.
  2. Find the file. Click into the folder that contains it. Subfolders expand inline. [screenshot: Seedr file list with mixed video and PDF items]
  3. Click the file once. The viewer opens in an overlay. - Video and audio start playing immediately. - Images render full size; use arrow keys to cycle through an image folder. - PDF opens with the toolbar on top. The pencil icon switches to annotation mode. - Text files (.txt, .md, .srt, .log) open as scrollable text.
  4. Adjust playback. In the video viewer, the gear icon sets resolution, playback speed and audio track. The CC button adds subtitles — pick a local .srt from the same folder or pull one in from OpenSubtitles. [screenshot: video viewer with subtitle and audio-track menus open]
  5. Close with Esc or the X in the top-right. Playback position is remembered per file.

Troubleshooting

  • File opens but video is black / silent. Usually an unsupported codec in the container. MKV with DTS audio is the classic offender. Try the Convert option on the file (right-click → Convert → MP4). Playback afterwards is universal.
  • "This browser does not support this video format." Older Safari and some embedded browsers on TVs cannot play the codec. Open the same file in Chrome or Firefox on a real computer, or convert to MP4/H.264 first.
  • Subtitles not showing. Check that the .srt is in the same folder and has the same base filename as the video. If the encoding is odd (common with non-Latin scripts), re-save it as UTF-8.
  • PDF loads blank or shows a spinner forever. Usually a corrupted or password-protected PDF. If it has a password, Seedr's viewer prompts for it; if it never prompts, the file is likely damaged. Re-download the original.
  • Stream stalls and buffers. You are probably hitting your plan's bandwidth cap for the day. Free and Basic plans throttle after the quota is used. Upgrade to lift the cap, or wait until the counter resets.
  • HEIC photo won't open on a shared computer. Refresh the page. Very rarely the server-side HEIC conversion has not completed for a fresh upload. A second click after a few seconds normally fixes it.

What works well and what does not

Works reliably:

  • MP4 (H.264/AAC) at any resolution your plan allows.
  • MP3, FLAC, AAC audio, with cover art when present.
  • JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, GIF (animated).
  • PDF viewing up to a few hundred pages. Annotations save back to the file.
  • Plain text, subtitle and log files.

Known limits:

  • No transcoding of live-playback codecs. If a video's audio track is unsupported by the browser, it just will not play. Convert first.
  • 1080p / 4K require Premium. Free plan tops out lower.
  • No in-browser Word editor. Seedr converts .docx to PDF and back, but editing the doc itself happens in your own app.
  • No OCR. Scanned PDFs show as images; you cannot search their text.

Wrap

The viewer is the fastest way to check a file without committing to a download. Play, read or preview, then decide whether to save it locally or leave it in the cloud.
